Were you looking for information about Down Syndrome? Downsindrom is a common misspelling of Down syndrome.
Down syndrome is a chromosomal disorder caused by the presence of an additional 21st chromosome. It is not inherited and is usually the result of a random event that occurs during the formation of reproductive cells (eggs and sperm). The condition is associated with mental retardation, poor muscle tone, and a characteristic facial appearance. Although the average life span of people with Down syndrome was much lower in the past, it is common for them to live to age 50 and beyond today.
