Living With Down Syndrome
People with Down syndrome are now living fuller, richer lives than ever before as family members and contributors to their communities. There is no cure for Down syndrome, so the goals of treatment are to control symptoms and manage any medical conditions that occur as a result. For example, someone living with Down syndrome may benefit from:
- Regular checkups and screenings
- Counseling and support groups to help deal with the emotional and practical aspects of this condition.
Support groups can be particularly helpful -- not just for patients, but for their family members as well. These groups can offer support in person, over the telephone, or on the Internet.
